The TIMS is a 27cm radius, extended geometry, magnetic sector field instrument containing a 16 sample - turret source, 9 position multicollector, and a Daly collector allowing small ion currents to be measured. This instrument, which provides highly accurate and precise measurements of an element's isotopic composition, represents the 'gold' standard for isotopic analysis. The isotopic dilution technique is used to measure the concentration of elements in a matrix. This is a 'definitive' method of analysis and can yield the highest accuracy achievable.
