The reference material is prepared from human hair, thus the matrix is identical to that of patient specimens. This biological matrix, obtained from unexposed volunteers, is spiked with the appropriate analyte.

Reference material is first used in one of our External Quality Assessment Schemes. The assigned value is usually determinated using the median of the data reported by participants, after removing outliers.
